How KidStarter Works

How KidStarter Works

When you install KidStarter, a new Windows user is created for each of your children. This means your children will have their own custom space filled with nothing but their favorite programs and websites.

For your kids accounts, KidStarter becomes the default desktop and launches immediately. This means that we don’t just try to hide the Start menu or perform other tricks to keep your kids safe, we provide the entire Windows environment that your kids use so your kids will not be able to accidentally get around KidStarter or access things they shouldn’t.

Because your kids will have separate Windows accounts, they won’t have access to any other content on the computer so your files and programs will stay safe from little hands!

When you start up your computer, you’ll see a Windows screen that will let you choose which user you want. Parents can continue to use the computer as before, and kids can access all of their content by clicking on their user icon.

Once KidStarter is up and running, parents will be asked to add programs for their kids. We’ll provide you with a list of everything that’s already installed on your computer and all you need to do is click on the programs you want your kids to use.

Next, you’ll be able to add websites for your kids. We provide a list of kid-friendly websites to get you started and you can also add any others your kids enjoy.

The big benefit is that each website and program will have a large simple icon that allows your kids to launch content for themselves.

The KidStarter web browser doesn’t have an address bar and will ensure that your kids can only access the sites you’ve approved. Our technology makes sure they can’t follow ads or other unwanted content and that they won’t be able to download programs or viruses without your knowledge.

Changing content for your kids is easy. From KidStarter, just click the settings icon and enter your parent password. From there you can easily add or remove programs and websites.

If you decide to uninstall KidStarter, it will remove any user accounts that it created and your computer will be just as it was before you installed KidStarter.
